These portraits were all made on my little iPhone SE (it still has a home button) in the Procreate Pocket app, using my finger as a paintbrush.

The small scale and the imprecision of finger painting lend all of these portraits a freshness and simplicity. The majority of my subjects were people on the subway.

I never know how long someone will stay seated, so I always work as quickly as I can. Some of these portraits were as quick as 30 seconds, some as long as 20 minutes.
