My self portrait as a Satori, a type of Japanese demon monkey.

I have an affinity for Japanese folklore and symbolism as a result of my time studying Religion and East Asian Studies in college. This project was a great excuse to tap into some of that knowledge.

I pulled some inspiration from tarsiers for the creature design. The concept of the self portrait is as follows: the satori reads the viewer's mind and sees the artist in the mind of the viewer. Trippy.
